garden update.

I have a bunch of tomatoes now, but I am concerned that they won't ripen all of the way before it starts getting cold. I may end up having to make fried green tomatoes!

I didn't get as much basil as I was hoping for. Three of the 6 plants got diseased. The healthy plants started to flower so I had to go ahead and harvest them. I was hoping to have enough to freeze pesto for winter and that didn't happen. It is still super satisfying to eat a meal cooked with your own home grown ingredients.  

finish it. part 2.

I am proud to say that I have completed two of the items from my list for the finish it challenge.

first is this tiny stripy baby jacket made up of odds and ends that have accumulated. Here I am holding it up for scale. Like everything I am knitting these days, it is of my own design, knit from the top down, and in the round.

the little guy i made this for won't be arriving until fall, and taking pictures of flat baby sweaters is getting old, so i  put it on carlton.

Secondly, I have finished up this little kimono style cardigan for the same little one who is receiving the stripy sweater. 

Again, it is knit from the top down and is my own design.  All the details are on my raverly page.

Finish It.

My friend Chase is hosting a finish it challenge over at her blog "oh the cuteness" . The idea is to finish all of your unfinished craft projects before starting anything new. I don't have a ton, but I thought I would play along. The deadline is Dec. 15th, but I have some birthdays and weddings between now and then, so I am making an exception for making gifts for those events.

garden part-2

I moved the tomato and basil plants outside. They look so tiny in their giant pots.

I have six Italian bail and two silvery fir tree tomato. You may remember I had a lot more starts, the ones you don't see here were all given away.

The plan is to have a lot of basil at the end of summer, that I can use to make pesto and then freeze for this winter.

I decided it was time I try sewing something that isn't a rectangle or modified rectangle. 

This apron is from an old Simplicity pattern (7874) that I got at value village ages ago. The fabric is Ikea. I used twill tape for the ties.

little skirt.

I have gotten the bug to try sewing again. I have decided to start with some small and simple projects. In addition to cloth napikns made from fabric scraps. I whipped up this skirt last week.

The pattern for this is Lazy days skirt which is a free pattern from oliver + s. I made a size for 2-year old.  I have had this hot air balloon print laying around for a long time, and am happy to see it worked up into this cute skirt.

tiny sweaters

I have been knitting, like I do, and now that these have been received I can show them here.

I am calling this one "little preppy" on account of the plaid buttons.

little preppy is knit up in a bamboo + microfiber that is super soft and precious.  

I call this one "nubby". Can you see the texture of the thick and thin yarn?

The buttons on nubby are vintage Japanese that I fount on Etsy.

Both of these are my own design, and are 2-4mths size, so they should fit the little tyke this fall.

This is the first summer that I have the out door space, so I have decided to try growing some vegetable plants.

I have started some tomato and basil plants from seed. They should be ready to be planted outside soon.

This is what they looked like just two weeks ago. They are growing fast, which is exciting.
